Join us for an exciting opportunity to hear all about the Tate Modern project. This new development will transform Tate Modern. An iconic new building is being added at the south of the existing gallery. It will create more spaces for displaying the collection, performance and installation art and learning, all allowing visitors to engage more deeply with art, as well as creating more social spaces for visitors to unwind and relax in the gallery.

Herzog & de Meuron architect John O'Mara will share the architectural vision for the new building as well as fascinating insights with the current progress onsite which include information about the concrete core of the building, the innovative brickwork, the reopening of The Tanks and lots more.

Much of the tour will take place by the 'Skirt of the Black Mouth', the innovative hoarding structure with built in public space. Designed by artists Heather and Ivan Morrison this artwork surrounds the project site and provides an alternative to traditional hoarding structures. It is a seating area that is part of the landscape for everyone in Bankside to enjoy throughout the year. The 'Skirt of the Black Mouth' uses sculptural elements to redefine the space on the south side of the gallery, while allowing glimpses of what lies behind. On this tour there will also be an opportunity to visit the dynamic Tate Modern project display inside the gallery.

Places on this walking tour are limited, please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

We will leave from outside the Bankside Community Space at 1pm, the walk will last one hour.
