The Goodlife Centre
What do you do with a chair when the leg has come loose? With a light that no longer works? A holey jumper? Throw it away? No way! In conjunction with various fixperts and the folks from Traid, The Goodlife Centre are hosting an afternoon of fixing and skill-sharing.
Bring your broken items along to their Prepare to Repair event and get expert advice from the fixperts and skilled enthusiasts so that you can try to repair, reuse and recycle your items, thus reducing the chances of throwing it away.
The Goodlife Centre help Londoners view all of their possessions in a new light and appreciate their lifelong value. By reducing our dependency on throwing away and starting over and instead focusing on repairing and reusing items, they hope to inspire enthusiasm for a sustainable society.
Bring along your broken item* from home for assessment, and if deemed repairable, you can start making repairs using our tools under their guidance. They don’t fix things for you – instead they advise on the process and give a hand where they can. The idea is for the community to learn and share life-long repair skills and help each other to bring back stuff to former glory.
What Can You Bring?
Transportable items are best to bring along, such as crockery, bicycles, toys, umbrellas, small electricals, clothing and knitwear…. In fact, there is very little that cannot be given a new lease of life.
Find out more and register for your place at this free event here.
*Due to the time limits and the number of volunteer fixperts that are there on the day, they can mostly only help to fix one item per person.
Throughout March, we are hosting a range of events and activities focused on learning new skills. Find out more here, and join the conversation with #BetterYou.
