In celebration of London Design Festival (17 - 25 September) join us for a special walking tour that explores the history and typography of Bankside businesses of the past.
Sam Roberts guides this walk through the streets of Bankside hunting for ‘ghostsigns’, the fading remains of painted signs from years gone by. The tour will uncover some of London’s most iconic signs, discover the local, advertising and design history that they convey.
Meet at the junction of Union Street and Borough High Street at 12.30pm. This is not a circular route, the walk will finish at the junction of Union Street and Great Suffolk Street (may finish after 1.30pm but you are welcome to leave early if you have to get back to work).
Ghostsigns is a research and publishing initiative started by Sam Roberts in 2006. Projects to date have included curating the History of Advertising Trust Ghostsigns Archive, running the Ghostsigns Walking Tour in London’s Stoke Newington, and contributing numerous pieces of writing and photography to specialist and popular publications.
