You may have seen a flash of pink on three wheels around Bankside recently. If so, that is because businesses in the Bankside area are now able to use Better Bankside’s green (or pink!) delivery service to deliver goods to other local businesses. Following a successful trial period last year, the full service is now up and running.
Better Bankside wanted to help businesses widen their pool of customers by providing a low-cost delivery service, while helping to tackle the ever-present problem of air pollution on London’s streets. It uses an electrically assisted tricycle to deliver goods cleanly and hopes that by being the first delivery scheme of its kind in the UK it will encourage others to do the same.
Jamie, from Cannon & Cannon, who are keen to explore better ways of delivering their British charcuterie products from their base at Borough Market said “we have an ever-growing number of chefs that are keen to use our quality products in their restaurants. Using a local, green delivery service like Better Bankside’s could really help us to meet this demand without compromising our values”.
The project has been helped off the ground with support from TfL. Better Bankside wanted to make sure that the service provided to businesses was reliable so it has also forged a partnership with London Bike Hub, an experienced bike courier company, who will be managing the day to day operation of deliveries. Both partners are extremely excited about what this could mean for deliveries in London in the future, with the potential for bike deliveries to form a significant part of last-stage deliveries in the city.
Businesses can make deliveries from £5 and can book a day or more in advance. If you would like to find out more information visit www.betterbankside.co.uk/cycledelivery or contact betterbankside [at] londonbikehub.co.uk
