The sun has started to shine again and the plants have all sprung out of winter, so what will you do to get outside more and enjoy it? As part of national Walk to Work Month, Living Streets and Southwark Council would like to invite you to take part in Walk to Work Week - a chance to create some healthy competition clocking up your miles over the course of the week.
Employees can sign up online and are encouraged to log all their walking on the website, which tots up their steps to show how all their short walks add up to make a real difference to their health. And it can get competitive – you can set up teams and see live leaderboard totals through the week.
It’s not just about walking to work though. It’s about identifying short walks that keep you active during the working day. You could do lunchtime walks, use the stairs rather than the lift, or even have walking meetings. To help you, we will be running our usual weekly Bankside Speedwalkers group on Monday 11th May (see here for more details), or you can join us on 13th May for a tour of Bankside to discover the darker side of its Victorian past.
It’s quick and easy to get involved – simply sign up online at www.walktoworkweek.org.uk - Good luck!
