Make sure you're aware of counterfeit currency as new notes and coins are introduced

Did you know that it's estimated that around 3% of all £1 coins in circulation are counterfeit? Counterfeit currency is a key issue for consumer facing businesses across the country, and it's particularly important to stay vigilant when new currency is being introduced.

The new £5 notes are currently in circulation, with new £10 notes to be introduced later in 2017. A new 12-sided £1 coin is to be released in March 2017, and it's expected that new £20 and £50 notes will have arrived by 2020.

Our police team have been visiting local businesses to highlight the security features of both old bank notes and the new polymer notes, so look out for them out and about in Bankside! Check out the attached image for advice on spotting a fake note, and visit the Bank of England website for further info.
