We are delighted to annouce a record breaking year for our Christmas gift appeal ‘Together at Christmas’, all thanks to your generosity.
For the first time, we joined forces with our neighbouring BID We Are Waterloo to donate Christmas presents to 2,360 homeless and vulnerably housed people in Southwark and Lambeth. As many as 6,500 individual items were donated by local businesses in the area to create gift packages filled with warm clothing, toiletries and festive treats such as biscuits and Christmas puddings. 131 businesses from Bankside and Waterloo took part in the ‘Together at Christmas’ campaign, either donating presents, hosting boxes for donations or volunteering to wrap presents which were distributed to 20 local charities. The appeal saw over 1km of wrapping paper went to good use bundling up the care packages.
Donald Hyslop, Chairman of Better Bankside, said: “Christmas can be a lonely time for some in the Bankside area, so we are happy to have had such a successful Christmas appeal this year and hope this small gesture will make a difference to the lives of local homeless, vulnerable and elderly people.”
2017 was the 10th year of Better Bankside’s ‘Together at Christmas’ campaign, which last year saw 1,600 gifts donated. This year, Better Bankside’s efforts helped create gifts for over 1,850 people.
