In the summer of 2017 Bankside Open Spaces Trust hosted The Great Get Together Bankside. The event formed part of a nationwide initiative inspired by Jo Cox, which brought together millions of people for the biggest community celebrations since the Jubilee, and powerfully showed “we have more in common”. The street party in Bankside was universally regarded, as one supporter commented, as “completely extraordinary”. An estimated 4,500 people enjoyed a packed programme of events from noon until nine pm with live music across four stages, hundreds of performers – the youngest 4 and the oldest 96 years of age.
Other activities included a bake-off, a dog show, a mobile farm, a kid’s zone, a comedy club, a 'Feast on the Street', and funfilled Wacky Races. Incredible backing from both the business community and local residents helped make this event happen, impressively within an eight-week turnaround. Planning for this year's event is well underway, and promises to be a fantastic community day for residents and visitors alike. The organisers are confident that they can deliver an even more engaging and exciting event for people of all ages to enjoy
To do this, organisers are seeking support to help them deliver another successful day for everyone in June 2018. The event will again take place on RedcrossWay and Union Street (between BoroughHigh Street and Flat Iron Square). They are hoping to attract significant numbers of volunteers, and sponsorship from residents and local businesses. They have a number of sponsorship opportunities which can be tailored to suit your aims from £500 to £50,000. In return your business would be closely linked with the event and benefit from the media activity around it. Donations and gifts in kind to help stage the event would also be welcomed.
