Ewer Street’s histories including a hidden mediaeval burial ground are revealed in this sensitive upgrade to one of Bankside’s oldest streets.

We teamed up with London Borough of Southwark to deliver improvements to Ewer Street to make it safer for those on foot and on bike, to incorporate more greening in to the street, and to celebrate some of the hidden stories and histories within this special street in Bankside.

Take a walk down Ewer Street today, and discover the site of a mediaeval burial ground, and remember those local residents who sadly lost their lives in an air raid during World War 2.  Enjoy the peacefulness of the new green space along the street which is tended by Better Bankside’s Urban Gardener.

The works were designed by Gort Scott Architects working with Polimekanos, and were implemented by Southwark Council.
