Redcross Way

An exemplar green street in Bankside, turning grey to green linking people and nature.

One of the first Bankside Urban Forest projects to be delivered, this project knitted together the green spaces on either side of Redcross Way through street tree planting, planting in the housing estates on either side of the road, and supported active travel to the two primary schools on the street by re-tuning the street to support those travelling on foot or on bicycle.

The improvements to Redcross Way were funded through Transport for London and the Forestry Commission (through the London Tree and Woodland Community Grant Scheme).  The works were delivered in 2009/10 by Southwark Council working in partnership with Better Bankside and Bankside Open Spaces Trust.

Better Bankside’s Urban Gardener continues to manage the on-street planting on Redcross Way.
