Better Bankside Ecology Toolkit

Could you get involved in greening our urban environment? Join us for a lunchtime of activities aimed at giving nature a home in Bankside.
Valerie Beirne
Bankside Urban Forest Manager

There’s no doubt that a little more greenery makes for happier, healthier people (plus some relieved wildlife whose urban habitat is under threat). The good news is that it’s achievable, even on the smallest scale, right here in our neighbourhood – making Bankside a better place to live, work and visit.

To highlight the many ways anyone can get involved, and as part of National Volunteers Week, Better Bankside has teamed up with the Ecologists from sustainability consultancy Eight Associates to create the “Better Bankside Ecology Toolkit”. This is a practical mini-guide including tips on guerrilla gardening, creating mini-meadows and rain gardens, and how to build bat and bird boxes.

Want to get started? Join Better Bankside and Eight Associates outside Union Viet at the junction of Ewer Street and Union Street on Wednesday 8 June from 12.30-2pm for a lunchtime  of activities aimed at improving urban wildlife. As well as the personal sense of well-being, you’ll learn tips about how to brighten up our streets, create new habitats and encourage biodiversity in Bankside. We'll also be giving away free packs of native wildflower seeds. Not bad for a mid-week lunchbreak. Let us know if you can make it!

Find out about a range of volunteering opportunities at our Community Connections event on 10 June. Come along, meet local charities and hear from your neighbouring businesses about how they get involved locally.
