Bankside and You Opportunity
The National Citizen Service powered by The Challenge is a youth and community programme designed to inspire and connect young people to strengthen their communities.

The National Citizen Service powered by The Challenge is a youth and community programme designed to inspire and connect young people to strengthen their communities. There are two opportunities for you or your business to get involved:

1. Host a Professional visit

The Challenge is looking for exciting professional organisations interested in getting involved with young people in Southwark.  Over the last few years they have held very successful visits with partners such as Borough Market, Tower Bridge and The National Theatre and would be very excited to have you on board in 2014! A key part of the summer programme is the opportunity for the teams of 12 young people (aged 16-17) to visit a local business place for one hour. The young people are introduced to a professional environment and benefit from your expertise. They present the social action campaign ideas which they have worked on, and receive your initial feedback and advice.

All they would need from you:

  • One hour from one or more members of staff
  • A tour of the business (if appropriate)
  • An insight into the work you do and possible pathways into this kind of work
  • Constructive feedback and encouragement on their team’s campaign ideas and presentation skills.

Professional Visit dates are:

Could your business enjoy hosting this? Contactkb [at] betterbankside.co.uk ( Katy Barke)r if so.

2. Sit in the Dragons’ Den

On the day after their Professional Visit, the team will pitch a campaign idea to a panel of Dragons, who will make decisions about the funding and delivery of their campaign.

The Dragons’ Den is an event that marks an important milestone in the experience of our participants. They have successfully worked as a team and are now ready to launch their own campaign. To emphasize the importance of this responsibility and to increase the excitement of the event, we seek inspirational and influential business and community leaders to join the Dragons’ Den panel.

This would require:

  • Just over two hours’ time commitment at London Southbank University
  • A willingness to provide constructive and encouraging feedback on campaign pitches from five teams of young people.

Contact kb [at] betterbankside.co.uk (Katy Barker) if any of the below dates are a possibility for you.
