Could you coordinate an annual festival?
The annual St George in Southwark Festival is looking for a volunteer co-ordinator, to build the festival programme and encourage new participants.
The weekend of events is staged every April around St George the Martyr Church on Borough High Street – London's oldest church dedicated to England's patron saint. The festival highlights those countries that like England celebrate St George's Day on April 23, and particularly encourages participation from anyone from those countries. Strong links have been made with Barcelona whose famous market, La Boqueria, is twinned with Borough Market, and there are partnerships with several community groups. 2013 will be our 7th festival.
This annual event has a well-established pattern, with volunteers knowing their roles, but you will need to arrange and attend approximately six committee meetings a year, as well as coordinating the event itself.
Working from home or your own office, you role will include organising regular committee meetings (held on weekday mornings) and taking minutes, building the festival programme, liaising with the wide network of festival contacts and encouraging new ones.
Graphic design and social media skills are desirable to update our website, Facebook and Twitter and build our profile online.
Support is provided by London South Bank University among others, and patrons are the LSBU Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of St George's Cathedral. Expenses will be provided.
