Could you create harmony with Borough Music School?
Borough Music School is a local charity that provides comprehensive music education for children in Southwark. The school offers individual and group music lessons at a subsidised cost for children aged 6-15 years, who might otherwise not be able to explore their musical interests. The school has been running for nearly ten years and there are many ways that you can support the school to continue being able to bring music to local children. Here are three ways to get involved:
1. Musical Instrument Amnesty
Many students don't have an instrument when they start. If you have an instrument gathering dust, why not donate it and give it a new lease of life? Borough Music School gladly accepts all instruments, but in particular they need trumpets, keyboards, guitars, violins and cellos. Your trip up into the attic could be the first step for the next Michael Jackson or Tchaikovsky!
Any fundraisers looking for a cause? Sponsor Borough Music School! Even £20 can make a difference.
£20 can provide recorders for four children
£80 gives a child one term of group music tuition
£200 gives one string band the opportunity to play together for one term.
£600 lets one choir class sing for a full year
£1,800 supports the full brass, string and wind band for a whole year
£20,000 keeps the whole music school running with lots of smiles for one term.
3. Offer an external view
Borough Music School is run by the parents themselves to keep costs low and give as many children as possible access to music. As all the volunteers are also stakeholders, it would be useful to have an external view on the organisation. This could be from a financial or organisational point of view – in business planning, team management, marketing, website support or various other insights.
