Don't have the capacity to physically volunteer? This could be the perfect opportunity for you!
Brightside helps the young people who need it most to achieve education and career success. We connect young people with volunteer mentors who can help them work out where they want to go in life and how they can get there. These mentors come from a range of careers and walks of life: people just like you!
Brightside supported 15,000 young people last year and, we’re proud to say that 55% of the unemployed young people on one of our most recent programmes were no longer claiming job seeker’s allowance by the end.
We’re incredibly grateful to all of our volunteer mentors and they often say that they have gained a lot from the experience as well. They’ve told us that it’s not just the personal satisfaction of helping a young person succeed but that they have also gained valuable professional development skills.
One of our mentors, Alice, said “I felt I’d really made a difference and inspired them. It’s really made me think about how to communicate without being face-to-face and how to tailor things to young people”. We train all of our volunteers to become excellent mentors and develop their communication and interpersonal skills.
If you think you and your colleagues could offer an hour a week to support a young person online then talk to your HR/CSR department about getting your organisation involved in a short project. sak [at] betterbankside.co.uk (subject: Online%20mentoring%20with%20Birghtside) (Contact us for more information.)
