Robes Project Wednesday Club
The Robes Project weekly club meets every Wednesday in a Lambeth community centre between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. It provides a cosy and safe daytime space for the homeless clients of Robes Project winter night shelters, and the focus of the group so far has been…. lunch!
Particular highlights have been some delicious, spicy curries made by one of the guests for whole group, inspiring the club to find new recipes, ingredients and equipment to encourage other guests to come and try the food. The atmosphere at the club is informal but inclusive, offering guests a space they can treat as their own, using the kitchen to make hot drinks, cook lunch, or make a sandwich. Table tennis and a pool table are available, so guests are free to chat and play games while relaxing.
Could you come along one lunchtime? Over the next few months the club is keen to welcome people with skills they can share with the Robes guests, perhaps from in catering, to run a session demonstrating how to cook a particular dish or to talk about their job, or somebody working in business to give a workshop on writing CVs or preparing for interviews.

The Robes Project opens for 5 months during the winter to give safety and warmth to homeless guests. The shelter, which operates from church venues in Southwark and Lambeth, runs from 7pm to 8am and is run by the different church congregations. The Wednesday Lunch Club is an addition to this, providing a safe and friendly space for socialising during the daytime.
