Volunteering Opportunities with MediCinema
If you consider yourself a bit of a film buff and want to share your enthusiasm for the silver screen with a fantastic cause, allow us to introduce MediCinema.
MediCinema are a small national based charity that exists to bring the magic of the big screen to patients and their families across the UK by installing and running state-of-the-art cinemas in hospitals and places of care. They currently have two film screening programmes in Southwark, bringing the latest Hollywood Blockbusters to Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals.
Each cinema is manned by a Cinema Manager, medical staff and trained volunteers which they currently need more of.
What to expect as a MediCinema volunteer
Whether you can donate your time on a regular or sporadic basis, you’ll play an important role from:
- prepping the cinema, putting up posters
- assisting the Cinema Manager
- collecting and chatting with the patients before they sit down to enjoy the latest release.
For first timers, you’ll shadow trained volunteers and training will then be provided for those looking to return whenever they can. If this sounds appealing, why not bring a friend? There’s opportunities to volunteer for screenings as a group (maximum 5 people).

Take a look at MediCinema’s website to see how they operate and other ways you might be able to support them such as hiring out their cinema for private screenings here.
