Menier Chocolate Factory

53 Southwark Street

Bankside is where London began. Quite literally. The Romans arrived in 47AD and built the first bridge across the river. In medieval times the area was the domain of powerful bishops and Knights Templar. By the C15th Bankside was where Londoners came to party at the taverns, theatres and bear pits. This lunchtime walk reveals the hidden history in streets you think you already know. Be prepared for the surprising, quirky and sometimes shocking history of Bankside.

This walk is perfect for those who are new to the area, or have worked around here a while but have never been on a tour before.

We will be meeting outside the Menier Chocolate Factory at 1pm for a 1.05pm departure, and will be finishing at 2pm outside the Globe Theatre.
