In the 1500s Bankside was the place to come and have fun, with its theatres, taverns and houses of ill repute. But in the 19th century the area was industrialised, and after being badly bombed during World War II it suffered a period of post war industrial decline. Largely forgotten, it was only in the 1990s that this fascinating part of London began an extraordinary revival, which continues to this day.

Join Laura Adams, Blue Badge London Tourist Guide, on a walk through Bankside to discover just how the area went from industrial wasteland to the vibrant, beating heart of culture it is today, how the local community has played a vital role in its regeneration and to hear some of the intriguing stories behind the transformation.

Throughout March, we are hosting a range of events and activities focused on learning new skills. Find out more here, and join the conversation with #BetterYou.
