Join us for a nocturnal exploration of Bankside's wildlife, as we join local firm The Ecology Consultancy to go in search of bats in Bankside.
Did you know that London is home to six of the UKs sixteen native bat species and at dusk they come out to play? These elusive night fliers emerge from roosts throughout the city and, using a network of darkened river corridors, parks and gardens to commute, they distribute to forage on night flying insects. As these hunters prey solely on insects they are set to benefit greatly from urban green infrastructure projects being implemented through the work of Bankside Urban Forest and Bankside Open Spaces Trust which is promoting invertebrate life all over bankside.
Huw Bramhall of The Ecology Consultancy will introduce the ultrasound detecting equipment used to monitor these protected species and will guide a summers eve walk through a selection of Bankside's parks and open spaces to listen to them feeding and playing.
