Recent and planned developments are bringing over 25,000m2 of additional retail space to Bankside’s neighbourhood. At the same time residents and employees consistently report that existing retail is not meeting their needs. What role can Better Bankside and its partners play in developing a retail strategy for the area that meets local demand? What aspirations for retail should be reflected in the emerging Bankside Neighbourhood Plan?
You are invited to join us for breakfast and a roundtable discussion chaired by Robert Hume, Development Director - London Portfolio, Land Securities and Better Bankside Board Member on 17th July. Together we will explore the future of retail provision in Bankside by asking:
- What is the role of retail in Bankside and how well is it currently performing?
- What provision should there be in the area and is the market likely to deliver this?
- What is preventing the retail demanded by residents, employees and visitors from being provided?
- How can Better Bankside and its partners foster the conditions that will enable a greater variety of retail to thrive?
The outcomes of this event will feed into the Neighbourhood Plan and provide a platform for further collaborative work by Better Bankside and partners to support retail in Bankside.
