Southwark Council are consulting on the potential introduction of a Late Night Levy throughout the Borough.  The Levy would apply to premises licensed to sell alcohol between the hours of midnight and 06:00 the following day. There is a three month consultation period running from 25 February until midnight on 19 May 2019. If the Council decides to adopt the Levy, it will commence on 01 September 2019. Bankside businesses that sell alcohol after midnight may be charged up to £1,259 per year as part of the proposal. The Late Night Levy is a mechanism which enables licensing authorities to raise funds from late-opening alcohol suppliers. The revenue raised would be used to reduce or prevent late night-alcohol related crime, disorder and nuisance, and improve public safety and street cleaning.

The Better Bankside management team have been meeting with London Borough of Southwark representatives to oppose the levy and, alongside the other BIDs in Southwark, will be responding on behalf of our members. We are facilitating a consultation event planned for Tuesday 30 April from 3.30pm at SAMA Bankside which we hope businesses potentialy affected can attend. Please rsvp via info [at] (subject: Late%20night%20levy%20event)

We are also encouraging businesses to respond via the Council's online survey. The consultation period runs until midnight on 19 May 2019 so all responses should be submitted before this date. Find the online survey here.

Further information relating to the consultation can be found here.
