After the indulgences of the festive season let us help you to achieve a better you and a fitter Bankside for 2016. Throughout January we will be running a series of fitness and wellness activities for a better mind, body and soul. From weekly yoga to outdoor exercise sessions, a talk on nutrition, plus a selection of exclusive Buzz card offers on healthy lunches, gyms and more.

Kick-start the year with StreetGym®, starting Wednesday 6 January and running weekly throughout the month. See your city in a different light as we make best use of London’s iconic urban terrain. You’ll run up to three miles guided by a professional fitness instructor, stopping along the way at various bits of street furniture and architectural features to perform bodyweight based exercises.  Be prepared to crawl, jump and climb along the way. StreetGym® is great fun, will boost overall fitness and is amazing training for obstacle races like Tough Mudder and Spartan Beast. (Wednesday 6 January, 13 January, 20 January, 27 January).

For a more gentle approach or to complement a high intensity workout, try the morning yoga sessions. Each week will introduce a different style of yoga starting with Ashtanga on Thursday 7 January. Ashtanga yoga can be regarded as a complete fitness program. It helps in increasing the body’s strength, endurance, and flexibility as well as calming and disciplining the mind. In contrast with Ashtanga, Yin yoga goes slowly, poses are held for longer. If you like the calming effect of stretching without having to break a sweat, then Yin might be the right class for you. Hatha classes are gentle and a good place to learn beginner’s poses, relaxation techniques, and become comfortable with yoga. There will also be a yoga for deskworkers session, teaching gentle techniques that can be repeated at your desk.

Did you know that regular exercise can increase energy levels and productivity and reduce stress and sick days? The experts from The Fitting Rooms, a brand new personal training studio in Bankside, will be giving an interactive presentation on the benefits of strength and conditioning for desk bound workers on Friday 15 January, 12:15pm. In addition to this presentation The Fitting Rooms will be offering free Thursday lunchtime workouts throughout January, (small groups no larger than 4 people) focusing on mobility and muscle imbalances caused by a sedentary, desk tied lifestyle and postural correction, email info [at] thefittingrooms.london (subject: RSVP%20-%20Better%20Bankside%20Lunchtime%20Workouts) to confirm your place. They are also offering a free personal training session worth £75 for Buzz card holders.

Affordable gym, Fitness4Less invites you to try out their high spec workout areas and great selection of exercise classes for just £1. During January you can take advantage of the exclusive £1 day pass Buzz offer. Just pop into the gym with your Buzz card to claim.

The Bridge is a women's only gym and they will be hosting an open week with free fitness classes, gym workouts and health checks from 18 - 23 January. As part of the open week The Bridge will launch their new weight management programme, a 12 week diet and exercise plan, only £10 per person. An information day will take place on 19 January, pop in from 6pm to find out more. Make the most of the January price freeze on memberships - you can join from just £17.33 per month.

Don't miss our weekly speed walks. Every Monday lunchtime, it's an energising start to the week that will burn calories and boost fitness.

Of course, it’s not all about energy outputs but energy input too. Eating well is fundamental to staying healthy and feeling great. Brian Sharp from CrossFit Central London will be sharing his expert knowledge with an introduction to nutrition. The approach is simple and you’ll take home a healthy eating guide. The morning briefing will be held at 8.30am on 20 January and a healthy breakfast will be served.

Learn essential life skills and forgotten crafts at The Goodlife Centre. Popular with frustrated deskbound workers who are keen to get hands-on in a workwork workshop or furniture restoration class. Experts from the Confucius Institute at London South Bank University will be hosting classes in Chinese wellbeing and yoga, Tai Chi, stress relief and Chinese massage. Each of these sessions will take place over lunchtime so you can pop out in your lunch break for 45 minutes of wellness.

The British School of Osteopathy in Bankside is the largest and oldest osteopathic clinic in Europe. A core principle behind osteopathy is the idea that the body is an integrated and indivisible whole and the wellbeing of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together.
