The reopening of many of our favourite cafes, restaurants and pubs has reinvigorated our neighbourhood bringing welcome vibrancy back to the streets of Bankside. Tate Modern will open its doors again next Monday, 27 July, along with the Bankside Gallery. Borough Market has been a constant source of joy and good food throughout, and gradually offices are beginning to return.
A recent survey of local businesses indicates that September is likely to be a key month for office staff returning to work. Half of offices are expecting to be at more than 50% capacity by the end of the year.
At its lowest point, footfall in Bankside was at 10% of normal figures. Recent reports show this has increased to almost a third.
You’ve told us commuting to work using public transport is a key concern. We’ve ramped up our cycling offer, including more secure cycle parking and a new Bankside Bike Train to help Banksiders build confidence on their two wheels to work.
As we help people get back to Bankside we also want to provide reassurance in public spaces. Pink pedal powered hand sanitisers have been installed throughout the neighbourhood, we have a new deep cleaning regime and pink graphics to encourage safe distancing. Public spaces are being reimagined.
Many of you have said communication and information sharing is a valuable resource Better Bankside can provide. We’ve launched a new channel on a live messaging platform Slack to ensure Banksiders can stay connected.
Join our Bankside Exchange on Slack if you haven’t already and tell us more about your return to Bankside.
