At Better Bankside we have always advocated the benefits of active and sustainable travel, and have delivered a range of initiatives to encourage people to walk and cycle more.
We are already a community of cyclists, with 17% of Banksiders cycling to work, compared to the national average of 4%.
It is anticipated that cycling could increase ten-fold post lockdown. The Mayor of London has a bold new Streetscape plan to overhaul London's streets with transformation of London’s roads to be fast-tracked, giving space to new cycle lanes and wider pavements to enable social distancing.
If you are considering changing the way you travel to work, we have a range of initiatives to support the transition from bus to bike.
Fancy trialling cycling to work? Before committing to buying a bike, take part in a free bike loan from Better Bankside. Experience healthy commuting using one of our Brompton folding bikes, easy to store at work or home.
We host monthly Dr Bike sessions, a free bike maintenance service. Drop your bike off in the morning and collect in the afternoon.
Each session provides a basic servicing which will assess general roadworthiness of each bike, brake pads and brake cables, gears, alignment of wheels, tyres and inner tubes. Keep an eye on our events page for the next Dr Bike.
We are upgrading our Secure Cycle Park facility and relocating to a new and bigger site so we can accomodate even more bikes.

Our Pink Pitstops provide cyclists with eight tools for repairs or adjustments as well as a track pump. The bike repair stand is designed as a stable mount for any bike making repairs and adjustments that much easier. Find them outside our office at 18 Great Guildford Street or outside The Bridge Gym on Southwark Bridge Road.
Pink cycle stands
We have a number of pink Sheffield stands that we can have installed on private land for use by your employees.
Bankside cyclists have also enjoyed our bike maintenance sessions and cycle confidence classes. If there are other ways we can support cyclists we'd love to hear from you.
