Businesses needed to support the Bankside Skills Academy

Share your time and expertise with local young people this summer
Rachel Nicholson
Corporate Responsibility Manager

Bankside Skills Academy gives young people in Southwark a unique opportunity to get ready for the world of work through skills training, work experience and exclusive networking events with businesses in Bankside.

The programme runs for four weeks, from Monday 29 July through to Wednesday 21 August, and helps students develop practical skills such as CV writing, interview techniques, time management and communication as well as boosting their confidence, resilience and professionalism.

We’re looking for Bankside businesses to get involved in the Bankside Skills Academy through a range of different volunteering opportunities suitable for individuals and groups of colleagues:

  • Workshops: A session designed to deliver learning to the students on a specific skill using presentations, discussions and most importantly interactive or practical activities to engage them.
  • Insight Days: An opportunity for one or two students to shadow a professional, learn about their typical working day and the responsibilities and duties of their role within their organisation.
  • Speed Networking: A fun and fast-paced event that allows the students to practice their networking skills by asking quick questions about your job and career path.
  • Mock Interview Practice: Much like the speed networking session, this event will allow the students to practice their interview skills with volunteers, build their confidence and gain constructive feedback.

We’re also looking for a venue to host the students’ celebration event on Tuesday 20 August in the early evening. This final event is a chance for the young people to showcase the skills they have developed by organising a professional event for all the businesses that have supported them, as well as their friends and family.
