The Low Line, evoking Manhattan’s High Line, focuses on the rail arches that have been part of Bankside's heritage for over 150 years. This ambitious project will transform the public realm by opening up a walkway that runs along the base of viaducts.
With new cultural hotspots along the route, Flat Iron Square and Old Union Yard joining established places like Borough Market and Isabella Street, Better Bankside commissioned design firm Polimekanos to develop a waymarking strategy to encourage greater exploration across the existing and emerging sections of the Low Line. Polimekanos has previously been involved in local projects including Ewer Street shelter and Ewer Street Burial Ground in Bankside, so is familiar with the historic significance and intricacies of the area.
A brand new walking map has been produced to complement the waymarkers to help you navigate the route which can be picked up from local bars, restaurants and other places of interest, or download the guide on the left menu on this page.
