Fly a flag for Bankside

Mark the independent spirit of Bankside
Kate Poulter
Head of Marketing and Communications

Bankside is a district that has experienced constant reinvention. For centuries we have welcomed those with a rebellious and independent spirit.  The area’s location outside the walls of the City made it a natural landing place for outsiders and free thinkers, and today it retains an ‘otherness’ that inspires creativity and curiosity.

For London Design Festival, Better Bankside collaborated with NB Studio to present 45 Bankside flags created by some of London’s leading artists and design community, each designed to represent the rebellious and independent spirit of the area. The flags are on display at Borough Market's Jubilee Place and will be up until 7 October for all to see.

A set of flags will be auctioned with the proceeds given to Better Bankside's Community Partners* and then we'd love to see the rest flying on buildings throughout the area. If you're a proud Bankside ambassador and want to mark your spot and fly a flag, we'd love to hear from you. Email jc [at] (subject: Fly%20a%20Bankside%20flag) (Josephine) to find out more.

Please note businesses wanting to fly a flag do not need to participate in the online auction - we'll simply give you a flag that's been on display in Borough Market!

Bid on your favourite flag and find out the story behind the designs at Auction open 4 - 14 October.

* Better Bankside's three Community Partners are the Dragon Cafe, Construction Youth Trust and Contemporary Applied Arts
