Better Bankside, working with partners Bankside Open Spaces Trust and Southwark Council have secured a prestigious gold medal in the Urban Community category of the 2017 RHS London in Bloom awards, recognised for the quality of the planting in its streets and other open spaces across the neighbourhood.
For a third year in a row, the trio of partners entered the competition, and after two years of securing a Silver Gilt award, were determined to secure Gold in 2017. The judges, who visited Bankside in July of this year, were impressed with the variety of greening projects underway in the area, and appreciated the enthusiasm of the organisations and communities involved. The judges were shown a variety of spaces, including Tate Community Garden, Warden's Grove, Flat Iron Square and Crossbones Graveyard. They also got a glimpse of projects currently on the drawing board including Keppel Row and Marlborough Playground.
Better Bankside's Urban Gardener Georgia Smith collected the award on behalf of Better Bankside. Georgia coordinates a bi-monthly lunchtime gardening club for local employees. If you'd like to learn more, or join one of the future sessions, please get in touch!
