A £5 million project to replace waterproofing and bearings in and on the London Bridge abutments is due to take place this year.

London Bridge will be partially shut for 6 - 7 months this year. Buses, Taxies and Cycles will be allowed on the carriage way and pedestrians on the footway but with greatly constrained space.

Phase 1 16th March – Mid May: West side closed, one lane of traffic each way
Phase 2 Mid May – early August: East-side closed, one lane of traffic each way – pedestrian footways reduced in width.
Phase 3 August – October: Middle section closed.

As well as typical diversion signage, TfL are talking to app companies (Google, Waze, Citymapper etc etc) to ensure the diversion instructions are forwarded on. Official diversion routes will be via Tower Bridge and Blackfriars but, unfortunately, we are likely to see a busier Southwark Street and Southwark Bridge Road.

Take this opportunity to rethink you're regular routes which may be subject to disruptions and make use of the quieter back streets and alternative means of transport. Particularly on bike and by foot where possible.
