Southwark Apprenticeship Standard

Support and services to make recruiting an apprentice easy

Better Bankside offers a free recruitment service through EmploySE1, an innovative service that matches local jobs with local people.

Run collectively by three Business Improvement Districts in London SE1 - Better Bankside,Team London Bridge and WeAreWaterloo, EmploySE1 offers member businesses a great way to recruit local people easily and free of charge. We also work with local partners such as Southwark Council.

Did you know that by taking on an apprentice, you can improve staff retention while making cash savings through NI contribution exemptions, cash incentive payments, and up to 90% discounts on qualifications? Southwark Council offer free services to make hiring an apprentice easy, and an accreditation scheme for businesses already offering apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships are a tried and tested way to recruit new staff, or re-train and upskill existing staff. In-work progression for staff leads to higher productivity and retention rates for your business. New apprenticeship standards are available with programmes tailored to suit your business needs.

Cash savings and discounts on qualifications include;

  • Class 1 National Insurance Contributions exemption for apprentices under the age of 25
  • £1000 cash incentive for hiring an apprentice between 16-18 years old
  • 90% funding available for the apprentice’s qualification
  • Opportunity to use up levy funds (if you are a levy payer)
