The Bankside Skills Academy students celebrated their success at the programme's final event

On Tuesday 20 August, the Bankside Skills Academy students celebrated another successful year by welcoming guests including family and friends, local young people and Bankside businesses to their final event, Step into the Future.  Hosted at the Novotel London City South, the event was a chance for the 12 Bankside Skills Academy students to demonstrate the skills they have developed during the programme, and to share the knowledge they have gained about the wealth of career opportunities and pathways available with Better Bankside's business members.

Over the past month, the students met more than 20 different local organisations and were supported by 70 volunteers as they participated in a series of skills development workshops, office tours, insight days, mock interview activities and exclusive Bankside experiences.

They were also supported by the Peabody Young Leaders programme which provides an accredited project management qualification that they complete alongside organising their event.  It's an opportunity for them to bring together everything they learned during the Bankside Skills Academy and receive a qualification that will be recognised by future employers.

By the end of the programme, 100% of the students agreed that they had learned new skills, and 91% felt challenged by the various activities they had participated in.  One of the aims of the Bankside Skills Academy is to help young people learn more about different businesses and sectors, and the wide variety of roles within these. At the beginning of the programme, only 42% of the students agreed that they had a good understanding of different roles within a sector or business, but by the end of their time with us, this had increased to 100%.

This summer's students are now returning to their studies or moving into employment, but feeling much more confident about achieving their career goals.
