The seventh Hawksmoor restaurant is situated in what was once a Victorian hop warehouse and then a fruit auction hall next to Borough Market and the restaurant draws on its location with the mantra ‘buy the best, and prepare it as simply as possible’.
The present building dates to the mid-19th century, when it served as a hop warehouse for merchants Wood, Field and Hanbury. In the 1930s, it became an auction hall for ‘colonial and foreign fruit’ specialists J. O. Sims. It stands on the grounds of the 12th century Winchester Palace, former residence of Bishops of Winchester, the remains of which can still be seen nearby.
The restaurant looks and feels like it belongs in this historic Borough warehouse, retaining some of the original features with the addition of reclaimed materials.
The menu at Hawksmoor Borough features many of Hawksmoor’s signature steaks and classic and much-loved seasonal and ethically sourced dishes, and of course, Sunday Roasts. In addition, there are an extensive selection of cocktails, wines, beers and spirits available.
There is also the ‘Market Specials’ menu which is unique to Hawksmoor Borough and will change regularly, making the most of the best seasonal produce available and the close proximity to suppliers based in Borough Market.
Express Menu: 2 courses £25, 3 courses £28 available until 6.30pm, and from 10pm onwards Monday-Saturday.
