Is your business keen to reduce your energy bills and carbon emissions? Would you like to receive free auditing and consultation to help you do so? Are you ready to take on the Business Climate Challenge?
Better Bankside is partnering with the Mayor of London to deliver the 2022 Business Climate Challenge (BCC). The BCC supports businesses across Bankside in reducing their workplaces’ energy consumption by at least 10% in a year and in developing an action plan to reach net zero emissions.
Participating businesses will receive free and bespoke technical support from a team of energy consultants to improve the performance of their workplaces, identify opportunities for energy and cost reductions, and develop a net zero action plan.
Amidst rising energy prices and the cost-of-living crisis, it is even more important to operate workplaces efficiently to save money. Your fellow Bankside businesses who took part in the first round of the challenge saw on average a 16% reduction in their energy use and cost savings of £8,300.
There are only 40 spaces for Bankside businesses in this year’s round of the Business Climate Challenge so make sure you don’t miss out. If you’d like to be one of the participating businesses, fill in the Application Form as soon as possible.
Answer as many questions as you can so that we can begin to build a bigger picture of your organisation to best tailor our support to you. Don’t worry if you don’t have all the information to hand; complete what you can, as best you can.

Business Climate Challenge guide
What does the Business Climate Challenge involve?
Your business will need to commit to reducing your building energy consumption by 10%.
You will work with technical experts over the course of the programme to set targets for your building and get bespoke technical support, coaching and quarterly training.
You will be part of a network with other Bankside businesses working towards meaningful energy reduction targets.
Buildings will undergo an energy efficiency audit and receive a Display Energy Certificate (DEC). Audits of office buildings will review lighting, ventilation, heating and cooling, taking into account challenges offices face after the pandemic.
The results of the audit will be used to develop a route map towards net-zero emissions and inform the process for other buildings with similar characteristics.
Better Bankside will supply promotional materials and support so businesses can communicate their involvement in the Business Climate Challenge externally.
Who’s eligible to participate?
The Business Climate Challenge is targeted at small and medium sized (50-250 employees), office-based businesses. The BCC will also pilot approaches to supporting retail, hospitality, industrial, accommodation, and mixed-use spaces, as well as supporting multiple tenanted buildings which have mixed use spaces.
Participants can be building owners, building management companies or building occupiers that have responsibility for, or a good relationship with building management.
Multiple organisations within a building can participate as a partnership. All participants should have the ability to make decisions to upgrade their building’s infrastructure or the agreement from their landlord to take part.
The project is tailored to private sector businesses, however if you’re a public sector, charity or non-profit organisation we’d still love to hear from you and involve you in our future events to support your business.
Businesses who do not meet all criteria but are still interested are invited to register their interest with Better Bankside as you will still be able to receive support and advice, and network with other like-minded businesses in Bankside at future events.
