Change for Bankside

Change for Bankside is a new contactless giving scheme being introduced across the neighbourhood to help people out of homelessness.

Change for Bankside is a new contactless giving scheme that we are introducing across the neighbourhood to help people out of homelessness.

All funds raised through Change for Bankside will be donated to local charity the Manna Society to fund their Housing & Welfare Advice service for people who find themselves homeless or in need.

The Manna Society is a local day centre near London Bridge station which offers a wide range of practical help and advice to some of the most disadvantaged people in our society. They are open seven days a week, 51 weeks of the year, providing a compassionate and practical response to the problems faced by London’s poor and homeless.

Bankside businesses have supported the Manna Society for many years, through our annual Christmas gift appeal and regular donations of used clothing and other items. The Manna Society aims to build a sustainable future by preventing and resolving homelessness. Their Housing & Welfare Advice service offers help finding accommodation for people who are homeless, helps others who are struggling to maintain their tenancies, and to access the support and benefits they are entitled to.

One person they have helped is Mary, who was referred to the Manna Society’s Housing & Welfare Advice team by a local night shelter. Mary had been evicted from her accommodation under ‘Section 21’ which allows landlords to evict people without having to give a reason and is one of the biggest causes of homelessness in the UK. Mary was also having problems with her Universal Credit, meaning she had no income and so was struggling to move on from the shelter into more secure accommodation. With help from the Manna Society’s team, Mary was able to get her Universal Credit issue resolved, and find a new place to live.

If you’d like to help people like Mary, you can find a Change for Bankside donation point in the following locations:

• Blue Fin Building, Sumner Street – opposite the Tate Modern
• Better Bankside, 18 Great Guildford Street

We’ll be adding more locations over the coming months. If your business is interested in hosting a Change for Bankside donation point, either on a window facing the street or on a countertop or reception desk, please get in touch with Rachel Nicholson:
