[post_content] => Get involved with Bankside Futures this summer by volunteering at this mock interview activity.
Working in pairs, volunteers will host short interviews to help young people taking part in Bankside Futures this summer to gain useful experience by answering questions about themselves and their achievements.
You will be given an interview guide to help you prepare and run the interviews, including a set of interview questions plus feedback forms. You will also be given mini CVs for each 'candidate' you will interview so you can ask questions related to their skills, experience and future ambitions.
At the end of the activity, your feedback will be gathered and discussed with the Bankside Futures team, so that recommendations can be shared with the young people to help them prepare for real-life interviews in the future.
As well as in-person interviews, we also need one or two "remote volunteers" who can host online interviews, given how commonplace these are now. The Bankside Futures team will set up the online interview, so you just need to log on from your device, whether you are in the office or working remotely.
You don't need to be an HR professional to sign up for this activity, as it's a great way to develop your skills and confidence as an interviewer.
THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED.
If you are interested in other ways to support young people get ready for work, please get in touch with Rachel Nicholson.

[post_content] => Join us for this breakfast briefing to learn more about Bankside Futures, a summer work experience opportunity for local young people.
Whether your business has already confirmed its participation in Bankside Futures, or you want to learn more about the different ways to get involved in this summer's programme, you are welcome to attend this breakfast event.
It's an opportunity to hear from Sculpt UK, delivery partner for Bankside Futures, about all the ways that Bankside businesses can help young people learn about the world of work; whether that's providing an insight into your sector and its career pathways, delivering a skills-based workshop or helping young people on the programme practice their networking and interview skills.
There will also be time to network with other Bankside businesses over tea, coffee and pastries.
What is Bankside Futures?Bankside Futures is a two-week summer work experience opportunity for young people aged 16-18 years old who live and/or study in Southwark. Bankside Futures runs from 8-19 July, and helps young people build their awareness of different careers through skills-based workshops, employer encounters, networking opportunities and more. Working in teams, the young people will also develop a social action project that responds to issues they care about that affect our neighbourhood. They will present their ideas to family, friends, teachers and Bankside businesses at the end of the programme.
To find out more about Bankside Futures and how your organisation can get involved this summer, please contact Rachel Nicholson: rn@betterbankside.co.uk

[post_content] => To celebrate Volunteers' Week 2024, we're teaming up with Leaves Breathe to host a half-day volunteer gardening event at Lucy Brown House, a sheltered housing unit near Borough Market.
Join volunteers from other Bankside businesses as you work under the expert guidance of the Leaves Breathe team to help bring this 'secret garden' back to life so that the residents of Lucy Brown House can enjoy their outdoor space over the summer.
Day outline
9.45am - Welcome and Health & Safety briefing
10am-1pm - Gardening Activity: tasks may include pruning roses, adding mulch to borders, improving drainage to older shrubs and trees, creating compost beds, and helping with planting to create a new back garden. There will also be a tea/coffee break halfway through the day.
1pm-2pm - Lunch and awards ceremony.
You don't need to be an expert gardener to get involved, as the Leaves Breathe team will lead the activities and brief you on the tasks you are assigned. All tools and refreshments will be provided, but please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor activity, including closed-toe shoes. We also recommend bringing a bottle of water, a hat and sunscreen as you will be working outside.
As places are limited for this event, there is a cap of 4 people per business. If you register but can no longer attend, please cancel with as much notice as possible so that we can reallocate places.

[post_content] => Generally, women in the workplace tend to be excellent team players, always willing to help out. Unfortunately, this trait and other behaviours can contribute to burnout and long-term sickness, which in January 2023 was the most common reason for economic inactivity and on the rise.
Julia Oyeleye, a natural healthcare practitioner and teacher with over 25 years’ experience, believes it is possible to be successful in your career, whilst managing the impact on your overall health.
Join the Bankside Women's Network for this breakfast event with Julia to learn how to spot the early warning signs of burnout and what you can do to support your mind and body to thrive rather than survive, using a seven-step approach with tips that actually work.
There will also be plenty of time to get to know other women who work in Bankside and foster new connections.

[post_content] => Celebrate International Women's Day 2024 at this breakfast networking event hosted by the Bankside Women's Network.
"We all have our purpose, we all have our strengths." Beyoncé
We'll be joined by Genelle Aldred, a communications consultant, to explore how confidence and communication are two things that can be the difference between those women who are like the best-kept secrets, and those who are well-recognised and known for what they can do. 'Tall poppy syndrome' can make some women not want to be seen as showing off, being too much, or drawing unwanted attention to themselves. It seems that those women who do, are either chopped down or not seen as 'nice girls'; however they are also the ones that get ahead, change the world and get the opportunities.
Or does it all just seem this way because of how society judges women who are confident and ambitious?
Genelle will explore this topic, how to worry less about the invisible "they", and learn how to communicate in a way that will help you to celebrate your strengths and purpose. She will also share some practical tips on how to be a confident and effective communicator.
There will also be plenty of time to get to know other women who work in Bankside and foster new connections.
Agenda:
8.30am - Breakfast and networking
9.00am - Genelle Aldred: How to build your confidence and spark it in others
9.30am - Q&A
9.54am - Networking
10.00am - Close

More recently she has provided commentary for News UK and the Canadian Broadcasting Company as well as written pieces for The Observer, Elle UK, The Daily Mirror and has guested on multiple podcasts talking about comms. Genelle is a regular newspaper and headlines reviewer on Sky News and BBC Radio London.
Other prominent roles include Head of Digital Strategy for an International NGO, Channel Manager and Executive Producer of a Freeview TV Channel, then Director of Communications for a boutique training agency. Genelle was Deputy Chair of Women in Journalism until early 2024.
After transitioning to her independent communications business Genelle delivered training focused on cutting-edge media, presentation and DEI comms for various companies and sectors including London Stock Exchange Group, Newsworks, Texthelp, Peak (AI), Future Dreams House, Women in Journalism. She also delivered Keynote speeches on communication for organisations including IAG GBS, The Cabinet Office, Esure, N Brown, Girls Day School Trust, Talk Talk and more. [post_content] => Apart from revelry and merriment, a big theme of the Frost Fair was the importance of community and connection. Banksiders would take to the ice to meet, dance and enjoy each other’s company in what was a very dark and cold time of the year. From kings and queens to barge people, everybody was welcome at Frost Fairs and our 2024 version will be no different.
On Friday 26 January we want to take a moment to celebrate Bankside with an opportunity for those that live and work in the area to come together.
From 11.00 – 13.00, Banksiders are asked to volunteer their time to attend our Frost Fair Fika (a Fika is the Scandinavian term for making time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee/tea and a little something to eat). Taking place in the Frost Fair tent, there will be music, refreshments and a chance to meet members of Blackfriars Settlement Positive Ageing group. Share a cup of tea and an elephant cookie and take time for conversation with our older neighbours while finding out more about this vital Bankside charity that works with local people to make life better. The charity is currently looking for Befrienders and Club Volunteers.
Music will be provided by Blackfriars Settlement's own choir the Nightingales alongside jazz singer Irene Serra. Refreshment will be provided by local cafe and deli, Crosby and Hope.
Book to attend this free community coffee morning here.
