In 2023, we launched a pilot project that brought CCTV footage from Southwark Council, local businesses and private organisations into one coordinated system, speeding up theft investigations and helping the police access the CCTV evidence they need faster. The pilot received strong support, with 98% of surveyed officers backing the approach.
Following its success, the Metropolitan Police has now rolled out the initiative city-wide as MetMaps, expanding CCTV coverage across London. Better Bankside is proud to support this roll out by sharing best practice, coordinating local input, and working with our networks to help embed the system.
Kate Miller, Estate Manager at Borough Yards, described the initiative as “a valuable source of information and collaboration with other businesses,” while Rosie King, Metropolitan Police Intelligence Analyst, noted it’s “a massive time saver for both the business and the investigating officer.”
