A hands-on session to help hospitality and F&B SMEs reduce food waste and save money.

Reducing food waste This online session is designed for SMEs in the hospitality and food & beverage sectors looking to cut costs, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact by tackling food waste. The session will dive into the significant environmental, economic and social impacts of food waste. It explores practical approaches to minimising waste, including effective storage and spoilage prevention, food redistribution platforms, and menu design techniques. Through interactive activities, participants will learn how to implement simple, measurable strategies that deliver results, and by reviewing real-world redistribution case studies, they will gain the tools and confidence to reduce waste, save money, and contribute to a more sustainable food system. How to register Our training sessions are open to all Southwark-based SMEs with fewer than 250 employees. Up to three employees per business are invited to register for each session. In order to join this training, please ensure your organisation has completed the Southwark Climate Collective Registration Form. Accessibility This session will be hosted online by Temple, and a joining link will be shared with you by email closer to the time. About the Southwark Climate Collective The Southwark Climate Collective is a partnership project led by Better Bankside, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by the Mayor of London. In 2024 the project supported 141 SMEs on their net zero journeys, achieving a range of outcomes, from energy savings and increased recycling rates to improved processes and management practices. In the 2025-6 phase, the project is being expanded to support a wider cohort of SMEs across Southwark to prioritise climate action, through bespoke consulting support, a programme of expert-led training, Carbon Literacy Training and a suite of online resources. We'll meet opposite Marsha restaurant / Gourmet Pizza on Gabriel's Wharf at 9.30am for a briefing from Recorra before heading down to the foreshore, where we will work our way back towards Bankside. Please wear suitable, closed-toe shoes. We are running this event during low tide, but the surfaces along the Thames can be slippery. Please also dress appropriately for the weather.  High-vis jackets, bin bags, litter pickers and gloves will all be provided. Once the beach clean is completed, we will send you a certificate with the amount of waste collected by everyone. As places are limited for this event, there is a cap of 6 people per business. Join us and Pollinating London Together as we take part in their annual count of pollinating insects; bees, butterflies, and more, at some of London’s most iconic landmarks. This time, we’ll be heading to St Paul’s Gardens to continue our shared mission of supporting urban biodiversity.

Dan, our urban gardener, will meet the group outside the Better Bankside offices and walk over together.

Individuals who receive Carbon Literacy training typically realise carbon savings of 5-15%. The aims of the course are: The benefits for your business: This course is the equivalent of 8 hours of CPD training and requires attendees to carry out tasks prior to attending the in-person course. During the course, attendees will need to complete a personal and corporate pledge, which will be submitted to the Carbon Literacy Project for assessment and certification. A hands-on session to help hospitality and F&B SMEs reduce food waste and save money.

Reducing food waste This online session is designed for SMEs in the hospitality and food & beverage sectors looking to cut costs, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact by tackling food waste. The session will dive into the significant environmental, economic and social impacts of food waste. It explores practical approaches to minimising waste, including effective storage and spoilage prevention, food redistribution platforms, and menu design techniques. Through interactive activities, participants will learn how to implement simple, measurable strategies that deliver results, and by reviewing real-world redistribution case studies, they will gain the tools and confidence to reduce waste, save money, and contribute to a more sustainable food system. How to register Our training sessions are open to all Southwark-based SMEs with fewer than 250 employees. Up to three employees per business are invited to register for each session. In order to join this training, please ensure your organisation has completed the Southwark Climate Collective Registration Form. Accessibility This session will be hosted online by Temple, and a joining link will be shared with you by email closer to the time. About the Southwark Climate Collective The Southwark Climate Collective is a partnership project led by Better Bankside, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by the Mayor of London. In 2024 the project supported 141 SMEs on their net zero journeys, achieving a range of outcomes, from energy savings and increased recycling rates to improved processes and management practices. In the 2025-6 phase, the project is being expanded to support a wider cohort of SMEs across Southwark to prioritise climate action, through bespoke consulting support, a programme of expert-led training, Carbon Literacy Training and a suite of online resources.
