The last two years have been unrelentingly tough. We’ve missed loved ones and missed many of the big moments in the lives of our friends and families. And we’ve had to change the way we work radically. Add homeschooling and caring for the people we love to the mix, and it’s no wonder people want more gentleness, certainty, and self-care in their lives.
Despite our challenges, many of us experience an internal self-critical mindset – ‘I should be able to handle this”, “ I should be more resilient”, and so on.
In our self-compassion webinar, Andy Roberts from wellbeing business www.breathe-london.com explores the research into self-compassion of Dr Kristen Neff and introduces tools to help bring more self-compassion into our lives.

These can range from hope and optimism through to anger, fear and hopelessness. In this 50-minute webinar Andy Roberts from Bankside wellbeing organisation, Breathe London, explores tips and tools to help harness our emotions to help empower us with strategies to move forward. To do this, he will share the insights from people worldwide who are at the front line of the consequences of climate change. These include teams working to conserve the barrier reef and rainforest in Australia and a technology expert at the forefront of solar technology in London. And he will share some ideas from psychology to help us build resilience and cautious optimism. Only 9% of plastic ever made has been recycled. Plastic waste consistently makes up over 60% of litter found on UK beaches and the issue with plastic waste is that is never disappears, it just gets smaller and smaller.
Join other Bankside volunteers for this lunchtime clean up on the Thames foreshore, led by Paper Round, to help remove plastic waste from the banks of the Thames. You'll be surprised at the volume and variety of plastics that can be found by the river, helping to remove these will make an immediate difference to our local environment as well as wider marine ecosystems.
Meet at Gabriel's Wharf at 11.45am for a briefing from Paper Round before heading down to the foreshore where we will work our way back to Bankside.
Please wear suitable, closed toe shoes - we are running this event during low tide but surfaces along the Thames can be slippery. Please also dress appropriately for the weather.
High vis jackets, bin bags, litter pickers and gloves will all be provided.
If you register but can no longer attend, please cancel with as much notice as possible to allow someone from the waiting list the opportunity to go in your place.
