We can all have a hand in greening our local neighbourhood. Help us tackle the problem of biodiversity loss and brighten empty green spaces at the same time. Join Georgia, Better Bankside’s urban gardener and Wilder, a local social enterprise promoting wildlife friendly and low carbon gardening practices, for a lunchtime seed bomb making workshop in our Southwark Street arch. Using a combination of compost, wildflower seeds and clay you will create small ‘bombs’ which can be thrown into patches of green space, releasing pockets of seeds which will eventually turn into a micro habitat for bees, moths and other insects – as well as creating a beautiful floral landscape. Take them home to plant in your garden, or release them in empty scrub land on your walk home from the office - seed bombs are a highly effective way to boost the ecology and biodiversity of unloved corners in urban environments. Be prepared to get messy at this creative and family-friendly workshop; please bring gardening or old washing up gloves if you prefer.  All other materials will be provided. There are two sessions for this workshop, each lasting 20-30 minutes, please select the time you want to attend when booking: 12.30pm or 1.00pm. Tickets for this event cost £5, all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to local charity Bankside Open Spaces Trust. If you register but can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket with as much notice as possible to allow someone else the opportunity to go in your place. This event is part of Bankside 2025: pioneering a low carbon neighbourhood, a programme of activity taking place from 25-29 October 2021 at a converted Southwark Street railway arch. Organised by Better Bankside and open to the public in the run up to COP26, the arch will transform into a hub for climate action, mobilising active participation from businesses and individuals from across Bankside and London. Even though COVID restrictions have been lifted we ask that anyone feeling unwell, or displaying Covid symptoms do not attend on the day. It is also important that we continue to respect the personal boundaries and wishes of others with regards to personal space, mask wearing, and physical contact.
