Union Street Urban Orchard was a meanwhile community garden on a vacant development site on Union Street. It was designed by Wayward and commissioned by the Architecture Foundation for London Festival of Architecture 2010 and was supported by Better Bankside. The project demonstrated the potential of empty sites awaiting development within the neighbourhood to host more productive and community uses.
The garden hosted a myriad of events during the summer of 2010 and the trees and plants used in the project were donated to local community growing initiatives in Bankside at the end of the project.
