Your expert guide will take you on a journey through time, exploring the history of The Golden Hinde. Learn about the workings of the ship, its adventures, and get a sense of what life was like onboard a 16th century galleon.
Before coming aboard, your guide will discuss what is already known about the ship and its history; this takes place at the anchor outside of the ship, where we discuss the figurehead and historic context.
You’ll come about onto the main deck. We will then proceed into the great cabin where you’ll be able to handle our replica navigation equipment, before moving to the armoury, where we will display our replica weapons and discuss their functions.
Following this, we will proceed to the gun deck, where we will discuss the living conditions of the Elizabethan mariner, before our gun demonstration.
Finally, we will move to the lowermost deck – the hold, where we will discuss how sailors stored and preserved food and the rations of the common mariner.
The ship is not currently accessible for wheelchair users or visitors with mobility impairments. Please note there are steep stairs on the ship and low ceilings.
