‘This is Bankside” photography competition celebrates Arch Day 2023

Calling all photographers! Celebrate the arches this Arch Day and join our “This is Bankside” photography competition.

As part of Arch Day, 8th July 2023, Better Bankside invites all amateur photographers to enter its dedicated photography competition, bringing to life everything that makes the area, and its unique arches special.

Celebrating the imposing Victorian architecture and the people and businesses who call them home, the competition aims to capture new angles and perspectives of Bankside. Entrants can take one of the following routes to illustrate what the area means to them.

Architecture
The arches are an iconic part of the Bankside landscape. Capture their imposing height, striking exterior brickwork and spacious interior structure. Showcase the variety of brickwork and textures through to the juxtaposition of old and new. The focus is endless.

Humans of Bankside
The arches in Bankside offer a unique setting for a businesses. Showcase the characters and their businesses and what makes this place tick. Who brings Bankside to life and what’s their story?

Hidden Gems
Capture the unexpected, life taking place before the lens and the gems which are hidden in plain sight. From ghost signs to the odd Roman mosaic, Bankside is full of spots with a secret something at every corner. This theme is for the explorer and we want our budding photographers to seek out the unusual, the different and the secret – shhhhhh!

How to enter: The “This is Bankside” competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography. There is also a separate junior category for anyone under the age of 17. To enter, entrants must submit their images by 5pm Friday 8 September, by emailing info@betterbankside.co.uk. Entries must be labelled with the applicant’s name and location of the photograph and image files must be 300dpi.

The prize: The shortlisted images will have their work exhibited in a dedicated exhibition in Arch 23, off Flat Iron Square on 30 September, with the winning photograph receiving an overnight stay for two in The Sea Containers and a bespoke personal guided tour of the history of the area. Our lucky Under 18 category will receive family tickets to The Everyman Cinema for a showing of their choice.
