Better Bankside, alongside BOST and Southwark Council, celebrated a Silver Gilt in the Urban Community category at the 2023 Britain in Bloom Awards.
Britain in Bloom inspires community groups in towns, cities and villages to make positive changes to their local environment through horticultural, environmental and community action. Part of this year’s projects for Better Bankside included The Hope Exchange, Stoney Street Green Wall, street scapes on Red Cross Way, Wards Grove, Keppel Row and America Street.
Judges commented on the initiatives to reduce the use of plastics in the production of plants, as well as how the planting and management of the area was improving the wildlife in the area.
They also highlighted the successful approach of engaging the many diverse sectors of the community through our gardening sessions, from employees through to business owners and residents. They further remarked on the imaginative and creative benches and planters that have transformed the street scene as part of the Low Line projects.
The win comes after also winning at the London in Bloom Awards earlier this year, further cementing the work we are doing with our partners to improve the area.
