Better Bankside’s Community Grants programme offers funding to charities and community organisations that make a difference to the lives of people living in Bankside and across Southwark.
This year, Better Bankside’s Community Grants are available to help with one-off costs or ongoing projects, with a focus on:
- Supporting people affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis
- Preventing homelessness and helping people affected by this to develop skills or move into employment
- Bringing people together to build social cohesion and create connections between different groups
Grants of £1,000-£2,500 will be used to fund projects and organisations that are delivering services in the Better Bankside BID area, or areas of Southwark that are affected by significant levels of deprivation. Groups supporting Southwark’s diverse communities, especially those led by members of those communities, are encouraged to apply.
Examples of grants awarded last year include funding for a weekly discussion group for women with mental health challenges; supporting an intergenerational community Christmas celebration planned and delivered by local young people; contributing to the creation of a new mental health trail to celebrate the history and meaning of Crossbones Garden; and helping local foodbanks support more families as well as providing a safe environment for people seeking their help.
This year, the grants will be managed through two rounds of applications, with applications for round one now open. All applications for round one must be submitted by 10am on Monday 23 October 2023. Round one applications will be reviewed after the deadline, and all grants awarded will be paid at the end of November.
A second round of applications will open in early 2024.
Full information about the Community Grants scheme and the application process can be found in the Information Pack. All applications should be submitted using the Community Grants Application Form, along with a copy of your organisation’s accounts. All documents can be downloaded via the links below.
