Our Bankside story continues.
Throughout history, Bankside has been on the other side of London’s mainstream. 16th century ‘Banksyde’ was outside the walls of the city, making it a natural landing place for outsiders and free thinkers. It became notorious as London’s rowdy pleasure quarter full of theatres, brothels and gambling dens. Bankside inspired literary legends such as Chaucer, Shakespeare and Dickens.
Today, the area continues to be a vibrant creative and cultural neighbourhood but Bankside’s super-charisma comes from its people. ‘Bump into Bankside’ aims to connect the story-seeker to the our storytellers and show the commonality in our community.
‘Bump into Bankside’ is your chance to meet a few locals, in a few locals, be they pubs, arches, gardens, workshops, museums, and other offbeat spots. They all have stories. How they came to be here, why their thing took off, where they’d like their ashes scattered. It’s not your usual Q&A.
