The government has announced a number of new grant schemes to support businesses affected by recent local and national restrictions.
Southwark Council will again be responsible for the administration of grants. Visit their site to determine which scheme your business may be eligible for and how to apply. You may be eligible to apply for more that one of these grants.

Lockdown grants

Any business that has been forced to close its premises from Thursday 5 November due to national restrictions will be eligible for a grant payment for whatever period they must close. Businesses will be eligible for grants based on the rateable value of their premises:

  • properties with a rateable value of up to £15,000 will be eligible for a grant of £1,334 for every four weeks they are required to close.
  • properties with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000 will be eligible for a grant of £2,000 for every four weeks they are required to close.
  • properties with a rateable value of more than £51,000 will be eligible for a grant of £3,000 for every four weeks they are required to close.

Tier 2 grants

Businesses in the hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors that experienced reduced demand between 16 October and 4 November 2020 will receive extra financial support for the days that Tier 2 restrictions were in place. Payment amounts will be as follows:

  • eligible businesses occupying properties with a rateable value of up to £15,000 will receive a one off grant of £667.
  • eligible businesses with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000 will receive a one off grant of £1,000.
  • eligible businesses with a rateable value of more than £51,000 will receive a one off grant of £1,500.

Tier 3 grants

Businesses that were required to close due to Tier 3 restrictions may be eligible for a cash grant for each 14 day period of closure.

Eligible businesses could include pubs and restaurants that operate primarily as an in-person venue, but which have been forced to close those services and provide a takeaway-only service instead.

Payment amounts will be as follows:

  • If your business has a property with a rateable value of £15,000 or less, you may be eligible for a cash grant of £667 for each 14 day period your business is closed.
  • If your business has a property with a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000, you may be eligible for a cash grant of £1,000 for each 14 day period your business is closed.
  • If your business has a property with a rateable value of £51,000 or above, you may be eligible for a cash grant of £1,500 for each 14 day period your business is closed.

The grant will be extended to cover each additional 14-day period of closure.

Christmas support payment for wet-led pubs

The Goverment has announced the introduction of a Christmas Support Payment (CSP) for wet led pubs – a one off payment of £1000 for eligible businesses. This can be claimed in addition to the existing Tier 2 and 3 fortnightly cash grants for businesses. A wet led pub is defined as a pub that derives less than 50% of its income from sales of food.

Tier 4 grants

All Tier 4 businesses required to close will be eligible for grants of up to £1,500 for each 14-day period of closure. Grants will be administered by local authorities.

Your business may be eligible if it:

  • is based in England
  • occupies property on which it pays business rates (and is the ratepayer)
  • is in an area of local Tier 2 or Tier 3 restrictions and has been required to close because of local restrictions that resulted in a first full day of closure on or after 9 September
  • has been required to close for at least 14 days because of the restrictions
  • has been unable to provide its usual in-person customer service from its premises

For example, this could include pubs and restaurants that operate primarily as an in-person venue, but which have been forced to close those services and provide a takeaway-only service instead.

Eligible businesses can get one grant for each non-domestic property within the restriction area.
