Better Bankside, Bankside Open Spaces Trust and Southwark council have been awarded a Silver Gilt award in the Urban Community Category at London in Bloom this past week.

London in Bloom is a significant endeavour aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Greater London by fostering a greener and more appealing environment for residents, workers, and visitors. It acknowledges and applauds the efforts of dedicated organizations and volunteers who contribute to the upkeep of parks, squares, and green spaces across the city. The initiative promotes environmental care by engaging various communities, individuals, groups, businesses, and boroughs to actively participate in nurturing their surroundings. With a focus on biodiversity, it strives to augment the ecological richness of Greater London. Moreover, London in Bloom seeks to strengthen neighbourhoods sustainably through community gardening, sharing best practices, and ultimately rejoices in the happiness gardening brings to the lives of all Londoners. Entrants are judged on their achievements in Horticulture, Environment and Community.

This award recognizes the wonderful network of greenspaces throughout Bankside and the many people who volunteer their time to care for these spaces, and the organizations who make Bankside greener!

Bankside has been entered into the National Britain in Bloom competition under the Unban Community Category, and will be finding out those results later this Autumn.
