Better Bankside is the lead partner in the Southwark Climate Collective, a 12-month sustainability programme providing free, expert support for 160 SMEs across the London Borough of Southwark.
From ballet schools to bakeries, construction to consulting, and pubs to publishers, the programme is open to businesses from all sectors, at any stage along their decarbonisation journeys. Funded under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this innovative programme offers a neighbourhood approach to net zero, bringing local businesses together to form a community for sharing knowledge and ideas to energise climate action.
The programme is well under way, with over 40 businesses having received an audit in one of four areas of business operations (energy, waste, freight or supply chains). Among these are the Unicorn Theatre, the Brunel Museum, Little Bread Pedlar, Southwark Cathedral, Southwark Playhouse, and Surrey Docks Farm.
March and April were busy months, featuring in-person training sessions, as well as the Collective’s first networking event, held at Ministry Venues, Borough, which brought together 80 people. Participants from Shakespeare’s Globe, Smart Energy GB and Paladar Restaurant shared some of their experiences so far and expectations for the months ahead, in a panel discussion hosted by Better Bankside’s Sustainability Manager, Sadie Hodgson.
Better Bankside is working with a range of Southwark businesses to deliver the Southwark Climate Collective – from technical expertise to venues and catering – and is proud to be championing all that Southwark has to offer.
