Hybrid working is here to stay. Here is what Banksiders think.

Hybrid working is here to stay, and Bankside’s businesses are adapting, experimenting and learning from one another.

Better Bankside recently brought together around 30 senior leaders for a second Bankside Connects event, exploring what’s working, what’s not, and how members can support each another.

The panel – spanning professional services, hospitality, and events – reflected the breadth of BB’s member businesses community.  We learned that there is no single model that works for everyone, and most businesses are still finding their way. What is clear is that those who don’t offer flexibility are likely to struggle to recruit and retain staff.

Hybrid working offers significant benefits: widening the recruiting pool, cutting overheads and employee commuting costs, and potentially improving wellbeing and productivity. It also supports those with caring responsibilities, contributing to greater inclusivity in the workplace.

But challenges remain, particularly around onboarding, where informal learning is harder to replicate remotely. Building trust, maintaining team cohesion, and helping new starters feel genuinely part of a team all require more deliberate effort.

Better Bankside has an important role to play. From the Buzz Card discount scheme to networking and wellbeing events, we can help Banksiders build a sense of community that goes beyond their own organisations.

The next Bankside Connects event, focusing on economic resilience, takes place on 1 July. Booking opens on our website at the end of May.
